Hide or password-protect a ticket type

Learn how to create a promo code that acts as a password to reveal or unlock a ticket type. Follow the steps below to make a ticket type hidden or password-protected.

Step 1: Create a promo code

The promo code acts as a password to reveal or unlock the ticket type.

1. Go to My events > Promo Codes and select your event from the drop-down menu.

2. Click +Add Promo Code to create a new promo code.

3. Configure the promo code:

  • Promotion Code - This is the name  your promo code.
  • Total Quantity -The total number of times the promo code can be used. Leave the quantity at -1 to allow unlimited use of the promo code.
  • Start Date / End Date - Limit when the promo code can be used by setting the start and end dates.
  • Discount Type / Amount - Define the discount amount or percentage. Set the discount amount to $0 if you don't want to offer a discount on the ticket price.
  • Notes - Add an optional note (for your records only).
  • Ticket Types - Leave this as All Ticket Types. In the next step we'll show you how to control which ticket type(s) the promo code will unlock or unhide.

Step 2: Apply promo code to ticket type

Now you can apply the promo code to the ticket type(s) you want to hide or password-protect.

1. Select My Events > Manage Events to access your event edit page.

2. Click on the Tickets tab to edit ticket settings.

3. Click the Edit Advanced button under Actions and next to the ticket type you want to hide.

4. Scroll down to Depends on promos. From the drop-down menu, select the promo code you just created in step 1.

  • To hide the ticket until the promo code is entered into the promo code field, select Hidden until promo code entered.
  • If you want to display the ticket type but make it password-protected, select  Disabled until promo code entered.

5. Hit Done to close Advanced ticket settings and Save Event to save the update.


Step 3: Test the promo code

1. Go to your buy tickets page (My Events > Event Links).

2. Enter the promo code from step 1 into the Promo Code field and hit Apply. This should reveal or unlock the ticket type.

⇒ Quick tip: You can change the Promo Code label to whatever you want it to say. Just head on over to your ticket edit page and scroll down to Promo Label to make the update.
